Admin/Biographical History John Alfred Borg was born in Sweden on July 4, 1854. He married Helena Kristina Svenson on November 22, 1876. They came to the United States in 1882. They resided in Essex, Iowa, for two years before settling at Wakefield, Dixon County, Nebraska.

John Alfred Borg died on April 3, 1922 and is buried at Wakefield.

Scope & Content The collection consists of three diaries kept by John Alfred Borg in Dixon County, Nebraska, from 1888-1892 and 1896-1899. Borg primarily writes about farming in Dixon County, along with family happenings, such as building a house in 1889 and landscaping the yard. He also wrote about economic conditions. The diaries are written in Swedish, but a typed translation entitled, "John Alfred Borg: Diary of a Swedish Immigrant, 1888-1899" is included.
