Admin/Biographical History Not much is known of C.H. Scoville other than what is contained in this collection. The 1893 Omaha City Directory lists his occupation as "Publisher."
Scope & Content The collection contains a handwritten account, with two typed anecdotes of some of C.H. Scoville's experiences as a solicitor/sales person for the various atlases and maps he published during the 1880s through the early 1900s. He describes how maps were made; selling techniques; pricing and delivery; etc. Scoville ends the reminiscence by telling of an incident where he found a white woman being held as a slave in a Dakota town. Also included is a customer testimonial for the Washington County, Nebraska, atlas by the C.H. Scoville Company.
