Admin/Biographical History Born at Hastings, Nebraska, on October 21, 1914, Joseph "Joe" Ahlin attended Hastings public school. He was the founder and owner of Joe Ahlin's School of Dance in Hastings. He ran the dance studio with his sister, Marie Ahlin Day. Both Joe and Marie had learned dance from their older sister, Josephine Ahlin, who had studied at the Alfrey College of Dancing and Expression in Denver, Colorado, as well as with Flavia Waters Champe in Lincoln, Nebraska. Marie Ahlin Day ran the studio from 1941-1945 while Joe served in the Army during World War II. After the war, Joe returned to Hastings and his dance studio. He was actively involved in teaching dance and developing choreography for musical productions at the Community Theater up until his death on December 31, 1982.
Scope & Content The collection consists of one folder containing drawings of some of the costumes made for his dance recitals, a few dance recital programs and tickets, newspaper clippings about recitals, and miscellaneous biographical information.
