This collection consists of manuscript material and index files arranged in two Subgroups. Subgroup 1: Writings; and Subgroup 2: Correspondence and Subject Files. These materials related to James Olson's time with the Nebraska State Historical Society as well as the University of Nebraska. The materials in Subgroup 1 are further divided into series which relate to the publication of <em>Red Cloud and the Sioux Problem</em>, <em>J. Sterling Morton</em>, the <em>History of Nebraska</em> and to various other writings, including articles, book reviews and speeches. Approximately 265 photographs; Ned Culbertson Abbott was an educator, author, and noted public speaker, who worked as Superintendent of the Nebraska School for the Blind in Nebraska City. This collection relates to his work and to his family. This collection consists of photographic prints and negatives from the late 1800s-ca.1950, mostly 1890s and 1930s-1940s. Photographs of Abbott and his family are included, as well as photographs related to the Morton family and to Abraham Lincoln. Of particular interests are photographs of the Nebraska School for the Blind. These photographs include images of the school building, students, and equipment used to train students.
