This collection consists of correspondence from and to Robert Bruce Payne while he was serving in Company D, 1st Nebraska, 1898-1899. In letters from Payne to family and friends, he describes his experiences in Hawaii and the Philippines. By 1899, he regrets the United States plan "...to subjugate the people Spain was trying to subjugate."
