On August 5, 1873, the last battle between the Pawnee and the Sioux was fought at what is now Massacre Canyon in Hitchcock County, Nebraska. The photographs in this collection show images of survivors and ceremonies honoring the site. This collection consists of photographic prints of the Massacre Canyon Monument and the dedication ceremony in 1930, Pawnee and Sioux tribal members, and an Indian war dance showing various cultural materials worn by the participants. Also included are photographs of the 1923 anniversary showing survivors of the battle.

Arthur County was named for President Chester A. Arthur and officially organized in 1913. This collection consists of photographs of dwellings made of sod and hay bales. Also included are pictures of the Arthur County Courthouse and views of Arthur, Nebraska, ca.1925. This collection consists of photographic prints showing the Pilgrim Holiness Church and other structures made out of baled hay. Also included are bird's-eye views of the town of Arthur, the Edward Martin house, the courthouse, and a photo of Addison E. Sheldon standing with an unidentified men. There is also a picture of a sod schoolhouse.

Cherry County, Nebraska, was created by legislative enactment on February 23, 1883. The photographs in this collection document the towns and rural areas that comprise the county. This collection consists of approximately photographic prints and negatives showing the ranches, churches, post offices, and stores in the towns of Cherry County. Also included are photographs of a sod school house, citizens on the street in the late nineteenth century, and Native Americans dancing, ca.1920.
