Swift Bear was born in the 1820s. He was the son of Lone Dog. By 1865, he was the second ranking chief of the Brules. He was second to sign the Treaty of 1866 as a Chief of the Corn Band. He was part of the first Brule delegation to Washington D.C. in 1870. In 1889, he was one of the first to sign away lands at the Council headed by General Crook and Sioux Land Commission. Swift Bear was one of the Chiefs who escorted Crazy Horse to Post Robinson.

This collection is comprised of the reminiscences and stories of Alex Charbonneau, a purported descendant of Toussaint Charbonneau and Sacagawea. Dated August 14, 1933, the volume covers the time period of 1870s-1890s. Some of what is written is from firsthand knowledge, but a lot seems to come from secondhand information. He tells of his time as a stagecoach driver at Fort Pierre, South Dakota, 1881 or 1882, and other jobs he had. This large bag is made of leather and has a drawstring opening, long fringe at the bottom and beadwork on the front and back. The beaded design is of an 8 pointed star that is made of white heart red beads and faceted bronze metal beads. The stars are surrounded by a white beaded background and 4 point blue stars. The beadwork is applied to the bag with lazy stitch and sinew. The body of the bag is square shaped and has a separate piece of leather hand-stitched to it with thread to create the opening. The drawstring is made of a thin piece of leather/rawhide.

Game consisting of a leather wrapped stick and a leather wrapped hoop. The stick has a U shaped piece of wood attached to the top and secured with pieces of leather and sinew. All of the pieces of wood are wrapped with strips of leather. There are two pieces of wood attached to the lower section of the stick. A piece of dark blue wool Stroud cloth is attached the U shaped end of the stick. The undyed white sawtooth edge of the wool is exposed on the bottom edge. This game comes with a hoop that is made of wood and wrapped with leather.

Bladder. Used as a storage bag for liquids. From a large animal, possibly a buffalo. The bag is oval, dried, transparent yellow and slightly wrinkled and collapsed. The mouth is cinched closed with a leather strip. A bladder bag was typically gotten wet to make it pliable. ***WARNING: THIS OBJECT TESTED AS A POSSIBLE POSITIVE FOR ARSENIC MAY 2008***
