|Name||Agriculture -- California|
The collection consists of two letters written in 1855 by John Cheney, near Stockton, California, to his parents and his sister, Tabitha Cheney, who lived in Taylorville, Illinois. He writes primarily of his life as a rancher in Sacramento County, California. He also asks about his family and friends. He makes reference to his wagon train meeting a party of about 150 Sioux Indians near the Little Blue River on his way to California.
