The collection consists of a letter written by John S. Davenport of Hubbell, Nebraska, November 22, 1897 to Jay Amos Barrett. The letter provides Davenport family history/genealogy and describes the family's involvement in the early Mormon church and its move west, including the winter of 1846 in Florence, Nebraska. Also included is a typed transcription of the letter.

George Simons was an artist who came to Omaha, Nebraska Territory, in the mid-1850s. During that time he made a series of pencil sketches of activities in the Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa, area. This collection is comprised of photographs of Simons's sketches. This collection consists of fifty-three photographic prints. The photographs are copies of sketches by George Simons. Included are scenes of Council Bluffs, Iowa, when it was known as Kanesville, 1849-1851; the N.P. Dodge Farm, 1854-1858; a Pawnee Indian village near Fremont, Nebraska, 1856; an Omaha Indian Village near Bellevue, Nebraska, 1854; a Mormon train at Florence, Nebraska, 1858; and images of life on the frontier in the 1
