This material is arranged in one series: 1) Sod House letters, 1957-1958. It consists of letters to the Nebraska Farmer written by pioneers in 1957 and 1958, relating their experiences in the late 19th and early 20th Century. The letters were printed in a series titled, "I Lived In A Soddy," and relate primarily to building and living in sod houses. Correspondents also wrote about contemporary social and religious life; discussed farming experiences, including crops raised and yields obtained for different years; and other related aspects of agricultural life. For copies of the letters consult the "Sod House Letters" volume in the Library Collections.

Approximately 170 photographs; The Franklin Academy was established in 1881 at Franklin, Nebraska, under the sponsorship of the Congregational Church. The Academy operated until June 1922. The materials relate to the operation of the school and student activities. This collection consists of photographic prints related to several aspects of Academy life. Portraits of individuals and groups, such as graduating classes, YWCA athletic teams, and cadets are included. Campus views and buildings and student activities are also documented. The photographs correspond to the span of the Academy's operation, 1881-1922, although some are undated. Most of the dated photographs are from 1900-1910.

Approximately 17 photographs; This collection relates to the dust storms and drought in Nebraska during the 1930s. This collection consists of photographic prints, ca.1934-1937. The photographs show dust drifts and clouds, primarily in Franklin and Buffalo Counties of central Nebraska.
