The collection consists of a letter written by John S. Davenport of Hubbell, Nebraska, November 22, 1897 to Jay Amos Barrett. The letter provides Davenport family history/genealogy and describes the family's involvement in the early Mormon church and its move west, including the winter of 1846 in Florence, Nebraska. Also included is a typed transcription of the letter.

July 24th, 1880 photograph of the Mormon Pioneer Procession event. It commemorated the arrival of 147 Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The back of the photograph features extensive captions regarding the event.

Monument to Joseph Standing at Salt Lake Cemetary. He was a missionary killed on July 21st, 1879 near Vernal's Station, Georgia by a mob. His body was returned to Salt Lake City and the monument was erected August 17th, 1880.
