This collection consists of material arranged in four series: 1) Correspondence, 1857-1943; 2) Manuscripts; 3) Printed Matter; and 4) Maps. This material relates to the selection and allotment of lands for the half-breeds of the Oto, Missouri, and other tribes from the reserve known as the Half-Breed Tract. Included in the collection are descriptions of these allotments and a list of half-breeds and mixed breeds of the various tribes and maps of the Half-Breed Land. The bulk of the correspondence and manuscript material relates to research on the history of the Half-Breed Tract by C. O. Snow of Auburn, Nebraska.

The collection consists of a three page, handwritten reminiscence by Daniel Cady Cole. The reminiscence in undated, but Cole describes coming to Brownville, Nebraska, in 1858 and teaching at the Fairview District School. He describes the school house and a chance meeting he had with John Brown and a group of runaway slaves. This collection consists of a reminiscence that Henry Culwell read to the Nemaha County Historical Society on January 31, 1907. The reminiscence gives a brief account of the Culwell Family in Nemaha County. The Culwell family settled there in 1857.

The collection consists of miscellaneous letters and receipts, 1865-1900, relating to William Daily's career as an Indian agent, as well as his family and his financial, political and business affairs. One item refers to the incorporation of the Peru Hotel Company, Peru, Nebraska, in 1889. There is also letterhead from 1882 for "William Daily, Pure Short-Horn Cattle, Young Breeding Stock for Sale."

The Riley collection contains large amounts of material related to the history of Nebraska and its people. There are four series: 1) Research Materials; 2) Correspondence, 1973-1975; 3) Vertical File Materials; and 4) Miscellaneous Materials. Series 1, Research Materials, encompasses over half of the entire collection. Included here are mainly transcriptions of newspaper clippings organized by subject. Substantial material can be found specifically relating to Webster County history, Willa Cather, cattle ranching, various forts, the Pawnee tribe, and the genealogy of many pioneering families. Series 2, Correspondence, 1973-75, is a small series of Rileyís letters to and from individuals

The collection contains a transcript of a diary kept by Andrew Hall Gilmore (transcribed by Raymond M. Gilmore). The diary provides an account of the overland journey taken by Gilmore from Indiana to California. The diary begins in Indiana on March 12, 1850 and ends in California on January 1, 1853. Throughout the diary, Gilmore describes his surroundings, including wild life, land use, camp life, towns he travels through, relations with the Indians, etc. The collection includes several letters dating from 1851-1852 written by Gilmore from Placerville, California to his brother James. The letters describe various aspects of gold mining including the building of canals and flumes. Also incl
