Located in southeast Nebraska, Pawnee County was established in the 1850s. This collection relates to its communities, people, and landscapes. This collection consists of photographic prints and negatives, ca.1894-1973 and undated; mostly 1900s-1910s. Photographs show street scenes and buildings, such as stores, schools, depots, libraries, and churches in the communities of Pawnee County. Also included are photographs of the airplane "Red Bird" and its builders in Dubois. Images of local scenery include Horseshow Lake and rock formations near Table Rock.

David Butler was the first governor of the state of Nebraska. This collection is comprised of portraits of Butler and his family, as well as various Butler family. This collection consists of twenty-nine photographic prints. Many of the photographs are portraits of David Butler, ca.1860s; Butler's wife, Lydia; and Butler's daughter, Violet. Also included is a photo of the Governor Butler's part-time residence at Pawnee City, Nebraska, 1866-1870, when he was not staying in Lincoln.
