Approximately 364 photographs; This collection relates to towns and rural settings in Seward County, Nebraska. This collection consists of photographic prints and negatives, ca.1873-1977; mostly 1900s-1920s. The photographs show street scenes; parks; and buildings, such as businesses, schools, and churches. There are photographs of community activities, including parades and the sealing of a time capsule in Seward, Nebraska. Photographs also show tornado damage from 1913 and 1957 tornadoes.

By the spring of 1937, the devasting effects of drought and dust storms had caused millions of tons of topsoil on the Great Plains to be blown away. This led to the planting of trees for windbreaks or shelterbelts on farms. This collection consists of photographs showing various shelterbelts in Nebraska. Eighteen photographic prints showing various farms in Nebraska with shelterbelts. Many of the photos are aerial views that give perspective to the size of the shelterbelt and stages of tree growth.
