The collection contains a four-page letter written by Frances Cabanne Saportas of Long Beach, California, January 16, 1934, to A.E. Sheldon. She writes about Jean Pierre Cabanne, her great-grandfather, and provides information on the American Fur Company and its founders, on the extended Cabanne family, and on Cabanne's post in Nebraska. Cabanne's fur trade connections in St. Louis and with the Sarpy family are described. Also included is typed transcription of a notice of the dissolution of Cabanne and Company in 1819.

A low porch with an awning over it stretches along the front of the building; there are several children sitting on the porch. The photograph was taken at the Rosebud Reservation. Note: At that time besides Jordan and Anderson, H.L. Hornby and T.C. Hornby owned interest in the firm, known then as the Jordan Mercantile Company.
