This material is arranged in one series: 1) Sod House letters, 1957-1958. It consists of letters to the Nebraska Farmer written by pioneers in 1957 and 1958, relating their experiences in the late 19th and early 20th Century. The letters were printed in a series titled, "I Lived In A Soddy," and relate primarily to building and living in sod houses. Correspondents also wrote about contemporary social and religious life; discussed farming experiences, including crops raised and yields obtained for different years; and other related aspects of agricultural life. For copies of the letters consult the "Sod House Letters" volume in the Library Collections.

The collection consists of a letter, dated June 3, 1872, written by David H. Hendrickson of York County, Nebraska, to someone named, "Willy." The letter discusses land and produce prices, as well as how to gain land through the Homestead Law.

John Butler Workman arrived in Nebraska in 1872, homesteading on Indian Creek in York County, Nebraska. He farmed the land and also served as the postmaster of the Indian Creek Post Office. Workman later moved to Exeter, Nebraska. This collection contains one letter Workman wrote to his wife and children. Photographs in this collection include the Indian Creek post office building. This collection consists of two photographic prints and one tintype. Shown is the Indian Creek post office, 1882; the Workman house in Exeter, Nebraska, 1886; and a tintype of a small child, 1871.

This collection relates to various exhibits at the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln, Nebraska, and to various sites in York, Nebraska. This collection consists of twenty-seven photographic prints. Most of the photographs show Nebraska State Fair exhibits of the University Dairy Division, ca.1917. Photographs of the Missouri Pacific Railroad exhibit at the State Fair, undated, and photographs of activities in York, Nebraska, 1928, showing the York train depot, are included.

This collection relates to the Oregon Trail's route through Nebraska and monuments erected along its path. This collection consists of photographic prints and negatives, 1904-1973 and undated, mostly 1910s-1920s. Included are scenes from locations in Nebraska through which the Oregon Trail proceeded. There are also numerous photographs showing markers and monuments erected along the trail and dedication ceremonies for the markers.
