Description Color offset lithograph, limited edition numbered print. Print of one of the 3M Company's Bicentennial paintings. Image centered on white paper of a raft loaded with supplies and six fur traders traveling on the Missouri River. On the tree lined bank the fur traders pass a group of Native Americans on horseback and foot traveling in the opposite direction with supplies, watching them pass. The river is tan. The bank is brown, the trees have lost their leaves, and behind the Native Americans is a cave. Printed beneath the image is text. On the left: "Reproduced by The Meriden Gravure company from the original." Also written underneath in graphite, "337/500 J. Falter." On the center: "Passing Cultures." On the right, "Published by Falters', Falls City, Nebraska 68355."

History According to a leaflet about this lithograph (see 10220-23-(1)), this image depicts fur traders on a raft on the Missouri River, near Indian Cave, Nebraska. Otoe Indians watch from the shore. this was a limited edition series of 500 prints, signed by the artist. It was engraved and printed by Meriden Gravure Ltd. of Meriden, Connecticut.
