Description Color lithograph by Currier & Ives, FF. Palmer, and H.D. Manning titled "A Midnight Race on the Mississippi." Image depicted of two steamboats racing on the Mississippi River at night. The river is bordered on the left by hills and trees. A moon lights the night, cloudy sky, and water. The steamboats, the Natchez and the Eclipse, are billowing smoke out of their smokestacks as they move to the right, up the river. The Natchez, on the left, is in the lead. Printed beneath the image is the manufacturer's and artist's names, location, and the title of the print. The image is bordered by white. The print title has been altered. The letters "H," "O" and "A" have been pasted over "Mississippi" to form the word "Housasippi."
