Description Gravure on white paper. Print titled "A Midnight Race on the Mississippi" by H.D. Manning and adjusted by John Falter. The print is changed from the original version of "A Midnight Race on the Mississippi" by H.D. Manning. Image of a steamboat and a rowing team racing on the Mississippi River at night. The river is bordered on the left by hills and trees. The moon lights the night, cloudy sky, and water. The steamboat Natchez is billowing smoke out of its smokestacks as it moves to the right, up the river. The rowing team, eight men in a boat with a caller at the stern, are wearing white shirts. The caller has a shirt with "KENT" written in blue. The oar tips are blue. The rowing boat is creating a wake behind it. Printed beneath the image is the manufacturer's and artist's names, location, and the title of the print. The image is bordered by white. Beneath the print on the left: "H.D. Manning of the Natchez, adjusted by John Falter" is engraved. The printing company is engraved beneath the right corner, and the title is engraved below the print on the middle. A plate mark frames the image. The print is signed on the lower left.
