History Exhibit from the cases of the State of Nebraska v. Charles Starkweather and v. Caril Ann Fugate Trial records with more information about these specimens are in the Library/Archives division Starkweather and Fugate went on a three-day killing spree through Nebraska and Wyoming that resulted in the deaths of 10 people. Starkweather was arrested on Jan. 29, 1958 in Wyoming. (Starkweather also admitted to killing a service station attendant in Lincoln on Dec. 1, 1957). Starkweather died in the electric chair on June 25, 1959 and was the last person to be executed in the State of Nebraska until the death penalty was reinstated in 1994.
