History Norbert Tiemann was born in Minden in 1924. He attended University of Nebraska, enlisted in U.S. Army in 1943, fought in Okinawa & Phillipines returned and graduated from College of Agruculture in 1946. Married Lorna Bornholdt of Wausa in 1950, recalled to service in Korean War, returned and worked as Co. Ag. agent in Lexington and later worked for Nat'l Livestock and Meat Board in Chicago. In 1945, he returned home to NE and took over father in law's family owned bank in Wausa. Served three terms as Mayor of Wausa. In 1966, he ran as Republican candidate for Gov. and won. Served as Ne. Gov. through 1970 when defeated by J. James Exon (Democrat). Tiemann served as Federal Highway Administrator from 1973-1977.
