Description Book, A Ribbon and A Star: The Third Marines at Bougainville, by John Monks, Jr. with illustrations by John Falter about a American forces in the South Pacific during World War II. A 242 page book with black and white illustrations and a jacket cover. The jacket cover is grey with a Kerr Eby illustration of soldiers marching through a thick jungle. Also printed on the cover is the title, and the author and illustrator names. The back cover has a listing of other World War II books. The right flap has the book synopsis and the left flap continues the synopsis with a paragraph on John Falter. The endpaper has a drawing of the heads of soldiers on orange paper. Falter's illustrations are printed on pages, 10-11, 18, 24, 37, 42, 81, 83, 97, 107, 114-115, 130, 131, 136, 179, 183, 194, 201, 208, 214, 216, 228-229, 238-239, and 241 featuring scenes of soldiers and the jungle. Additional illustrations are maps of the island and troop movements.
