Title Painting; John Falter; Acrylic; Matted
Object Name Painting
Description Acrylic painting on a transparency overlying the Currier & Ives print "The Life of a Hunter." The print, a color lithograph on white paper, features a black bear rearing up to strike a man standing before him with a knife. The two standing in a clearing in a snow covered forest. In the background to the right a man is taking aim at the bear with a rifle. Beneath the print is the manufacturer's name and location as well as the title. Printed below the left and right corners are the artists. The transparency overlies the print and changes the scene so that the bear is dancing with the man, while holding two Lark cigarette cartons in its paws. In the background three men are smoking and playing instruments. The print and the transparency are taped to an illustration board, which serves as a mat. On the bottom edge of the mat graphite notes are written: "Change Lark cartons // to tambourines."
