Object Name Sampler
Description The sampler is cream-colored linen with embroidery in varying shades of brown, green and gray of eight line of letters and numbers separated by horizontal lines. The first line shows doubles of the letters "A" through "I" in uppercase. The next line shows the letters "J" through "Z" in uppercase, a sideways "&", and another uppercase "M." The next line shows the letters "A" through "O" in uppercase cursive. The next line shows the letters "P" through "Z" in uppercase cursive. The next line reads "Harriet Thompson 1823." The next line shows the alphabet in lowercase. The next line shows the numbers one through twelve. The last line is blank. Made in 1823 by Almira Cook (the donor's great-grandmother). Frame is made of dark brown walnut.
