History Elmer L. Bunger was born in Humboldt, NE. At the age of 27, he enlisted in the army and served as a sergeant in Company E, 314th Supply Train of the 89th Division. He trained at Camp Funston, Kansas, and participated in the A.E.F. in the St. Mihiel Offensive, Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and Lucey and Euvezin Sectors. On June 12, 1919, he was honorably discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa.
