History According to a death certificate in the donor file, Mary Gwyer Townsend died in Norwalk, CT in 1909. She was born in New York, NY in 1823. Her parents were Christopher Gwyer (born in England) and her mother was Mary Bouton, born in Norwalk. It is believed that Mary was the sister of William A Gwyer. William was also born in New York and, after the death of their father, moved with his family to Norwalk. William came to Omaha in 1856 and later went to North Carolina to get his wife and daughter (Idalyn) and son (William). William was an extensive land holder in Douglas and Sarpy counties. He lived in Omaha from 1856-159 and again from 1865-1895. He was active in Omaha business and politics. He was on the Omaha City Council and served as a representative from Douglas County to the 5th session of hte Territorial Legislature. Further extensive genealogical information in donor file.
