History A native of Howells, Nebraska, Jeanette Meyer Davis joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps January 27, 1944 after receiving an RN degree at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and working at Doctors Hospital, also in Omaha. Davis had six weeks of training at Camp Carson in Colorado, and shortly afterward she was sent to England. She served in a colostomy ward, where soldiers were treated for wounds in their abdomens. Davis attained the rank of 1st lieutenant and was discharged November 14, 1945.
