Description Color offset lithograph on white paper. A print of the painting "Submarine Appendectomy," by John Falter, which features five men performing surgery on a man lying on a green table in a submarine. A man lies naked, covered by a white sheet on a table. A man in a white shirt, mask, hat, and gloves is using clamps on the man's abdomen. Standing behind him is another man in a white shirt, mask, hat, and gloves holding a bent spoon. A light is shining on the man's abdomen from the right. A man in a striped shirt, gloves, white mask, and hat, is resting his hand on the man's side. A man in a blue shirt is standing behind him and is shining a light on the surgery. Another man, the anaesthetist, wearing a white shirt, mask, hat, and gloves is sitting by the unconscious man's head, holding a mask above the man's head dropping ether onto the mask. The five men are cramped into the compartment; pipes and the bulkhead is visible on the right side of the print. On the left side of the paper is the artist's name and two paragraphs of black text on heroism and artistry of the painting. The painting is framed by a grey border. Printed beneath the lower left corner of the print, "The Submarine Appendectomy, painted especially for Esquire by John Falter."
