History National Airmail Week, May 15-21, 1938 celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first airmail route in the United States. On May 19th airmail service was offered to as many towns as possible. The towns celebrated by printing their own cachet with a commemorative design printed or stamped on the envelopes mailed that day.
