Title Print; John Falter; Offset Lithograph; By His Deeds Measure Yours
Object Name Print
Description Offset lithograph on tan paper. On one side is a print of "By His Deeds Measure Yours" by John Falter. The print depicts a Christ-like figure of a fallen soldier in a torn uniform with barbed wire around his head, one hand grasping the wire, and the other open-hand bleeding with bullet shells nearby. A gun lies on his lap. He lies half length diagonally across the picture space with rising ground and clear sky as a back drop. On the bank on the right is a post, broken and in the form of a cross with barbed wire wound around it. Beneath the print is the title and artist printed with a gilded frame. On the reverse side is the image of a caboose pulled by train moving away up the tracks. Telephone wires and poles are on the right edge next to a shed. On the lower left two men with a shovel and pick-ax are watching the train. In the background a shed sits on the top of the hill. Smoke fills the dark sky. The name of the image is printed below: "Fast Freight." Printed beneath the lower left: "Courtesy American National Committee of Engraving" and on the lower right: "By Peter Helck." The image is framed by a white border.
