Title Rust colored wool coat worn by Mrs. M.A. Slocum c. 1888
Object Name Coat
Description Rust colored wool coat is floor length and the top half buttons with fabric covered metal buttons. The lower half is open. The buttons have a checkered pattern. The coat has a high, banded collar and attached cape that extends just past the elbows. The sleeves are long and fitted. Gathers are takend at the center back to create fullness. A small bustle of rolled material is located in the lining, just under the gatheres. Couched soutache embroidery decorates the cape. One button is located on the outside of each sleeve at the wrist. Two small welt pockets are located at the hip area. A small green and gold velvet and satin pouch was pinned to the left breast. The coat is unlined. Braided tape loops are located at the underarm area of the lining. A black silk-cotton blend(?) faces the button placket and collar.
