Description Color offset lithograph on white paper. Printing proof of an illustration for the book, "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson and illustrated by John Falter. The illustration features seven pirates a boy captive traveling in a line down sand dunes. Leading the line of pirates is a bearded man in a black coat, short pants, socks, tri-cornered hat, and buckled shoes leaning on a crutch. The man has no left leg. He is walking toward the left on with an arm raised in the air, tugging on a rope. A green parrot sits on his shoulder. A rifle is slung on his shoulder. The rope is tied around the waist of a boy in a white shirt, pants, and shoes. The line of pirates continues behind the boy. The pirates are wearing shirts, pants, shoes, hats, and are carrying shovels, barrels, and weapons. The sand is broken up by green grass. Dead grass grows on the right edge, bordering the sand dunes. In the background the legs of additional pirates are trailing after the two figures. The image is bordered by white. At the top of the page the date is stamped, "1st Proof" is stamped in black, and numbers are written in red colored pencil. A black cross is printed on the right edge.
