History A native of Denton, Nebraska, Annabelle Peshek left her job at Glenn L. Martin in Omaha, Nebraska to join the U.S. Army Air Forces, WAAC, with the hope that she would be able to see the world. Peshek completed basic training in Des Moines, Iowa, February 22, 1943. She was sent to Anti Aircraft Artillery Command in New York and then to OCS at Des Moines. She was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Aug. 13, 1943 and 1st Lt. April 28, 1946. At Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, she taught typing in the specialist school, and she was an insurance bonds allotment officer at Fort Lewis. She was mustered out of the Army in 1946 but joined the reserves in 1949, earning the rank of Captain. Peshek joined the Air Force in 1952, earning the rank Lt. Col. before leaving the service in 1969.
