Description Magazine clipping featuring text and illustrations from the November 1938 Ladies Home Journal. Color offset lithograph on white paper. One side, page seventeen, features the story "Retired" by Elsie Singmaster with illustrations by John Falter. An illustration is printed on the bottom of the page of an older man in overalls kneeling on the ground by a line of flowers. A woman in a white dress and pink apron is leaning down next to him, behind a wheelbarrow. In the foregrounds is a water pump, and in the background are tall flowers. Printed on the top of the page are two columns of text and a ink note written by John Falter: "Original- Edward Patterson- 1860 Jackson St // San Francisco." On the reverse is an article titled "Chicago Keeps Babies Alive" by Paul De Kruif accompanied by photographs of babies.
