Description Color gravure on white paper. The print, titled "The Life of a Fireman: The Metropolitan System" by L. Cameron, N. Currier and J.M. Ives, features a fire engine pulled by a grey horse and a brown horse racing toward a fire in a four-story building at night. Three fire fighters are riding on the fire engine, additional fire fighters are running after the engine. Behind the engine a horse is pulling a cart with the fire hose. Two horses are pulling a cart with a ladder on the far right. In the background is a block of buildings; nine four to five story buildings are lined up on the block. A few onlookers are standing at the base of the burning building. The print is framed by white. The title, artist's names, location and copyright information are engraved below the print. The title of the print has been cut out of the paper; a rectangle hole remains. Written at the bottom of the page is, "The Life of a Fireman" in graphite.
