Description Color offset lithograph on white paper. Printing proof of a magazine illustration for the story "Tales of Six Cities; II: Sanctuary In Paris" by Paul Gallico. At the top reads "VIENNA * PRAGUE * " Below the headline is a line of circus performers against a red wall. Standing at the front of the line is a midget in a suit standing on a wooden crate and a man holding tall stilts shaped like legs, compete with mid-calf high plaid socks and brown shoes. In front of the crate are two white, circular dumbbells. Facing the performers are three police officers, holding nightsticks. One of the police officers is pacing along the bottom of the illustration. On the lower proper right side of the illustration is a caption reading "The men seemed to pay no attention to Lisette or Grognolle. They had stepped in front of the giant Cossack and were looking at him curiously." Below the illustration, near the lower left corner "by PAUL GALLICO" is printed, and below the author's name reads "IN PARIS" in black block letters (a continuation from "II: SANCTUARY" from 10645-322).
