Title Drawing; John Falter; Graphite
Object Name Drawing
Description Graphite drawing on white tracing paper. The graphite drawing is of a housing complex; several rows of two story houses are drawn in line. The tracing paper overlays a color lithograph. The color lithograph, "Across the Continent" by Currier and Ives, features a frontier town. Log cabins, covered wagons, and walking figures populate the town. Up from the right corner at an angle runs a railroad. An engine with passenger cars arrives at the station. To the right of the train are two Native Americans on horseback watching the scene. Above the town on the left are homesteaders cutting down trees with axes. To the left of the railroad tracks is a lake, trees, grass lands, and mountains. To the right of the tracks are houses, roads, and few trees. The tracing paper overlays the print so that the housing complex lies to the right of the railroad tracks on the grass lands. The image is framed with a black line and is bordered by white. Beneath the print is black text with the artist's names, manufacturer's names, copyright information, and the title printed in block letters.
