Title Moccasins, Buffalo Track, Non-Sioux, Sioux Style
Object Name Moccasin
Description Adult moccasins made of leather with hard sole and decorated with glass beads. The leather is cut in a straight inside line to toe with a split back. The tongue is a separate piece in an elongated semicircular shape. Two small pieces of leather are attached at the base of the ankle near the heel. The moccasins are decorated with glass beads in colors of blue, light green, and white. Bead rows are placed around the base of the foot and across the instep. Two V-shaped areas of beads with a longitudinal dividing stripe named for their resemblance to buffalo tracks are on the instep. Five beaded "bow" design units are in the border bead rows. A small diamond shape is found on the dividing stripe with small blue squares on the bead row directly across the instep. The beads are attached with sinew in a lazy stitch. Traces of what may be a blue-green dye or paint is seen on the visible pieces if leather and sinew.
