Description Hand painted aquatint on white paper. The print, titled "The Route to California" by N. Currier and J.M. Ives, features a train engine running on railroad track through a valley along a river. The train engine, with a red cab, red cowcatcher pulling cars, is traveling toward the left. The landscape features a cliff on the right, a river with rocks in it on the left-middle. In the background are grass and tree covered hills and mountains. The print has a blue sky. The print is framed by white. The title, and printer's names are engraved below the print. A graphite note is written on the left edge of the print by John Falter: "Sqaw // Valley."
