Description Color offset lithograph on white groundwood pulp paper. The cover for the magazine titled "Doc Savage" published by Street & Smith Publications, Inc. The magazine's cover features the image of three men submerged in water up to their faces; they are struggling to stay above the water. The man in the foreground has blonde hair and is hands are chained.The middle man is looking at the blonde man. The third man in the background is looking up, almost submerged completely. Above the image is the yellow text: "Doc Savage." Printed in white beneath the title on the left: "10¢ July // 1939 // A Street & Smith Publication." Printed in white on the bottom of the magazine: "Merchants of Disaster // Unusual Mystery Novel - and other stories." Taped to the bottom of the paper is a note in black about the artist and John Falter's role as a model for the cover.
